BALTIMORE LIGHT RAIL
Passing Track

This photo was taken from the back window, and shows the rear of a train which has just passed in rather rural-looking territory south of downtown.   Concrete ties are in abundance.  In the distance a single-track portion begins in this view from the late 1990s.

The northern portion of the light rail to Hunt Valley has quite a different character, but it too utilizes in large part former railroad right of way, and also still sees freight operation.  At one time the Pennsylvania Railroad and predecessor companies operated passenger service along that route, with trains linking Baltimore to the main line at Harrisburg.
