WASHINGTON, DC HEAVY RAIL
Northeast Corridor

Further out along the Northeast Corridor it is the Orange Line that parallels the electrified right of way.  The Amtrak (and MARC commuter) platform at New Carrollton was momentarily quiet at the time of this photo, but an outbound Metrorail train was nearing its own station, that line's terminal.

Like the Blue Line, this route serves Maryland, Washington, DC and Virginia.  Many station names have become longer over the years.  The terminal for the other end of the Orange was once Vienna, but is now called Vienna/Fairfax-GMU.

(The longest current name on the system, surely subject to future change, is officially abbreviated as U Street/African-Amer Civil War Memorial/Cardozo, on the Green Line.)
