This photo was taken from one of Crystal City's many
high-rise hotels. The days were numbered for what remained of the
once-huge Potomac Yard along the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac
Railroad. Mergers, changing economics of railroading and the
immense value of this mammoth piece of real estate had destined the
facility to oblivion.
A four-car train Metrorail train is on the grade between ground-level
running and the elevated portion by National Airport. The
Potomac River is in the background. |
