This photo from the early 1980s was taken along the outer portion of the
Market St. El, and shows old row houses likely already in a
considerable state of decline.
The line has been undergoing extensive
rebuilding and rehabilitation.
Philadelphia's subway network, like its city and suburban light rail
routes and extensive suburban rail system, and its metropolitan bus
lines, is operated by SEPTA, the Southeastern Pennsylvania
Transportation Authority. That agency took over the
privately-owned Philadelphia Transit Company in 1964. |
