PHILADELPHIA HEAVY RAIL
Old Row Houses

This photo from the early 1980s was taken along the outer portion of the Market St. El, and shows old row houses likely already in a considerable state of decline.  The line has been undergoing extensive rebuilding and rehabilitation.

Philadelphia's subway network, like its city and suburban light rail routes and extensive suburban rail system, and its metropolitan bus lines, is operated by SEPTA, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority.  That agency took over the privately-owned Philadelphia Transit Company in 1964.
