The Market St. line dates to the first decade of last
century, and the Frankford El was constructed and connected into it in
the early 1920s. There are 28 stations along the route, which operates
perhaps the only remaining A-B skip-stop service in the country.
The El descends to ground level for the final run into the 69th
St. Terminal along the Market St. portion of the route. In this view a train has discharged its passengers and is on the loop track to
return to the inbound
platform. The tracks straight ahead lead to the nearby subway
yards. |
