PHILADELPHIA HEAVY RAIL
Distinctive Rooflines

I first started going to Philadelphia on an irregular and occasional basis as a teenager in the early 1960s.  The rooflines of the old Philadelphia subway cars were very distinctive.  I looked on the Budd car design as somewhat minor-league compared to the New York subways with which I was much more familiar, but each trip to Philadelphia was highly enjoyable.  This photo, looking inbound at 69th St., is from about twenty years later.
