NEW YORK CITY HEAVY RAIL
Readying to Head Back

This is another view of a G train at 4th Ave. as it deadheads along the first of the two middle tracks.  Bits of the neighborhood poke above the top of the station.

There is much information available about the history and operation of the New York City Subway both in print and on the Internet.  It doesn't take someone very  long to track a particular car number to its contract identifier (which is "R" something), its maker and the period of manufacture.  In this case the train features venerable R46 Pullman cars, built in the mid-1970s.
