The old bridge in view here carries the Purple Line across the North
Shore Channel toward the end of its route at Linden. Several decades
ago this portion of the CTA utilized overhead electric power, a remnant
from even more decades previously, when the North
Shore Line continued on past Linden and into Wisconsin.
