CHICAGO HEAVY RAIL
Power Problem at Belmont

On this September morning power problems at or near the Belmont station caused service to be disrupted, resulting in a backlog of northbound Purple and Brown Line trains.  Several runs are lined up along the left outside track.

The North Side elevated presents some fascinating riding.  In its closer-in portions the Red Line runs express for a few stops along the interior tracks after coming up from the subway.  North of Belmont, the Brown line goes its own way to Kimball, and any express service (rush hour only) is provided by the Purple Line, still on the outside tracks.  The Red Line plods along up to Howard on the now-local inner tracks.
