BART heads into a subway almost immediately
north of the Millbrae terminal. The large portal is partially visible
in this view.
During the period when Millbrae lost its direct service into San
Francisco, all trains traveled from here by way of the Airport. This
required a reverse movement at that stub-end station, something
unusual on U.S. heavy rail (but also experienced on some PATH runs
at Hoboken, New Jersey). This procedure is no longer utilized.
