I have loved auto travel from my earliest memories
onward,
and I have had a continuing interest in service
station presence and history in whatever the setting. Brands
gone, brand identification changed, and gas station relics
beyond the next bend: fascination!
My friends usually humor me on the occasional car trip when we come upon
one of those sights that intrigue me, signage or pumps or
particularly noteworthy buildings of another era. It usually
requires a stop and a photo. Often these moments are rather magical
for me -- an eerie quietness in a small town, a sudden chance to embrace the wind, to
sample the season, to imagine the past. On my own sometimes I choose
to spend many moments looking at these small pieces of history, somewhat
lost in whatever the thoughts are. |
