The 2001 St. Clair County Extension in Illinois from East St. Louis
to College doubled the length of MetroLink.
The line's further opening east to Shiloh-Scott took place in 2003.
This photo, at College, is from the springtime of 2004.
Southwestern Illinois College is on one side of MetroLink
here, but looking out toward the south and east, as the camera was then
trained, the view was of sky and farmland and farms
-- and not
too much else. One got the feeling of peering into the historic
Heartland, and it seemed unlikely that an urban area could be close by.
I wondered how long it would be before "progress" would
materially change this vista. |
