This photo is from Muni's older 4th & King terminal,
and shows the then-new switch in place that would carry the future T-Third
line further south.
The completed
Phase 1 of that Bayshore Extension added eighteen new
stations and over five route miles to the Muni light rail network.
Phase 2 of this expansion is projected go the left just ahead in this view,
and will, if realized, allow riders to continue directly into downtown
through an entirely new underground route.
The planned line, called the
Central Subway, will cross under the heart of center city and end
beneath Chinatown. If and when that line is constructed there will be four levels of electric rail transit at
the corner of Market and
Third, one on the surface and three underground. |
