SAN FRANCISCO LIGHT RAIL
A New Turn Is Added

This photo is from Muni's older 4th & King terminal, and shows the then-new switch in place that would carry the future T-Third line further south.

The completed Phase 1 of that Bayshore Extension added eighteen new stations and over five route miles to the Muni light rail network.  Phase 2 of this expansion is projected go the left just ahead in this view, and will, if realized, allow riders to continue directly into downtown through an entirely new underground route.

The planned line, called the Central Subway, will cross under the heart of center city and end beneath Chinatown.  If and when that line is constructed there will be four levels of electric rail transit at the corner of Market and Third, one on the surface and three underground.
