Before the F-line, there was the Historic Trolley
Festival each of several summer seasons in the 1980s, as well as various fan
trips on historic equipment at other times. The Festival started out in large
part as an attraction to placate visitors to the city during
an extended period when the cable car network was shut down for
a complete overhaul.
During this era the tracks between Duboce Ave. and surface street
operation on Market were in regular use, as there was no turnback
loop at Castro. In this view one of the old San Francisco cars
is coming toward Duboce Ave.
The connection still exists, but there is a gate, normally locked,
at
Market St. The area closer to Market in this picture is now used mostly for restoration
work. In the area closer to the camera Muni sometimes positions temporary storage of LRV vehicles. |
