PORTLAND MAX LIGHT RAIL
New Train at Sunset Transit Center

The route emerges from the tunnel to the west to parallel the north side of SW Sunset Hwy., a busy freeway that has its own tunnels.  The next stop outbound, pictured here, is a long way from the station deep under Washington Park.  It is Sunset Transit Center, a busy transfer point with buses

The scene was significant for this intrepid photographer.  This was his first close-up view of the new MAX vehicles, introduced to the public just a few days before in August, 2009.  The 400 Series is manufactured by Siemens, like the two previous vehicle models.
