PORTLAND LIGHT RAIL
Travelers of an Older Time

An examination of Portland street maps from before the Interstate Highway era shows that two corridors carried through traffic between Portland and Vancouver, Washington.  N Interstate Ave. was the major route for one of these arteries, then identified as U.S. 99W.  To this day a number of older motels are operating along the artery.

This view is at the Overlook Park station.  Across the street in the distance, in this scene busy with poles and signs and structures, is the ornate sign of the Palms Motor Hotel.
