Mt. Washington is about 400 feet in elevation,
and was a formidable transportation impediment before trolley and road
tunnels pierced it. The "T" train in this view is curving
from the Panhandle Bridge toward its transit tunnel under the
mountain. Road traffic travels at a higher elevation; the
Liberty Bridge leads into the Liberty Tunnels. The Allentown
line, rising in this view, travels under that roadway, but soon after will be working the
hillside above its level.
