PITTSBURGH LIGHT RAIL
Across the Water

Mt. Washington is about 400 feet in elevation, and was a formidable transportation impediment before trolley and road tunnels pierced it.  The "T" train in this view is curving from the Panhandle Bridge toward its transit tunnel under the mountain.  Road traffic travels at a higher elevation; the Liberty Bridge leads into the Liberty Tunnels.  The Allentown line, rising in this view, travels under that roadway, but soon after will be working the hillside above its level.
