| This view returns to the early 
          1980s.  The PCCs, even then long in service, still had almost two more decades 
          left to provide transportation on the City Subway. 
 The line was a survivor during the bleak years of trolley and light 
			rail, but was also a relative newcomer to the transit scene.  
			It was opened in sections between 1935 and 1940.  In earlier 
			times numerous other routes branched off and joined  
			at various points.  Newark Penn Station once was a major trolley hub.
