NEW ORLEANS STREETCAR
Old Homes

St. Charles Ave. makes a series of bends as it more or less follows the crooked Mississippi River, some blocks away from the water.  The river gradually gets closer as one heads out, or uptown.  By the corner of St. Charles and Carrollton Aves. -- Riverbend --  the river is quite close by, but it remains hidden from view by the levee that contains it.  At this corner the route executes a right turn off St. Charles Ave. and onto S. Carrollton Ave.

There are many substantial, sometimes stately, homes along St. Charles Ave. in the Garden District and in Uptown, in various states of upkeep.  This view is near Third St., in the Garden District.
