The Canal Streetcar splits into two branches
after it leaves the CBD. The more frequent service goes up
Canal to
Cemeteries (Route 47). There are final resting places on both sides of Canal St.
at the end area, and on the other side of
City Park Ave.
The other branch (Route 48) turns onto S. Carrollton Ave. to end at Museum, by City Park.
Canal Streetcar added about five and one half miles to the city's
rail network. There was substantial flood damage along much of
both branches.
The unit in this view is at the Cemeteries terminal stop, which is
along a short stretch of single track. The bus to the left is
supplemental service provided by NORTA's Route 42, Canal. The
large memorial in the distance is in Greenwood Cemetery: Firemen's
Monument. |
