LOS ANGELES METRO HEAVY RAIL
To Union Station

From up above this view shows part of the large expanse of space at the North Hollywood terminal.  An inbound train has its doors open, waiting to carry passengers toward downtown Los Angeles.

It was originally planned that the subway would go further on beyond Union Station, into East L.A.  The planning process was a fluid thing, and the problems encountered early in heavy rail construction dashed this expansion to the east.  Gold Line light rail now serves that general territory.
