LOS ANGELES METRO HEAVY RAIL
North Hollywood Station Entrance

Because of the lack of outdoor viewing opportunities for one riding on the system, the subway itself may be a less than spectacular experience for the transit lover; but the routes gets credit from many observers for its artistic effects at station entrances and within the various stations.

The photo above shows, from some hundred yards or so away, the entrance to the last stop on the Red Line in North Hollywood.  You may like its design, or hate it -- but it is surely different.

The Metro Orange Line bus route has its eastern terminal nearby.  It runs on dedicated right of way, much of which was formerly a Southern Pacific branch line, with limited stops west along a swath across most of the San Fernando Valley.  The route, which is currently being extended north, shows up on Metro Rail maps.
