Trains sweep out of the tubes under San
Francisco Bay and pass through mostly industrial West Oakland on
their way to various East Bay destinations. The station offers
a chance to view the seldom-commented-upon Oakland skyline, but this
photo is of the other direction, facing toward the water, the docks, and a bit of the distant
Bay Bridge. San Francisco-bound trains from the platform from
which the photo was taken will
pass over commerce and a major rail yard, and then duck into the
Transbay Tube.
The approaching train will reach another stretch of subway, and a
junction point, shortly beyond West Oakland. Rails switching
north will continue to either Richmond or Pittsburg/Bay Point.
The other track continues southeast, for either
Dublin/Pleasanton or Fremont. |
