BAY AREA HEAVY RAIL
West Oakland

Trains sweep out of the tubes under San Francisco Bay and pass through mostly industrial West Oakland on their way to various East Bay destinations.  The station offers a chance to view the seldom-commented-upon Oakland skyline, but this photo is of the other direction, facing toward the water, the docks, and a bit of the distant Bay Bridge.  San Francisco-bound trains from the platform from which the photo was taken will pass over commerce and a major rail yard, and then duck into the Transbay Tube.

The approaching train will reach another stretch of subway, and a junction point, shortly beyond West Oakland.  Rails switching north will continue to either Richmond or Pittsburg/Bay Point.  The other track continues southeast, for either Dublin/Pleasanton or Fremont.
