Vines prosper upon the crossing sign and the buildings beyond.  The tracks continue in heavy use along this bit of the traditional New York Central main line in La Porte, Indiana, but the street no longer crosses the railroad.

After the New York Central, this busy route became that of the Penn Central, then Conrail, and most recently, Norfolk Southern.
