The back of the picture is hand-dated as July 15, 1955. At some point that afternoon at Heckscher State Park, Long Island, I spotted a rabbit. That was a pretty big deal for someone from Brooklyn. I think I vaguely remember that my mother asked me to
point and pose just afterward, cute as I had
been, so that we could recreate the excitement for the camera.
I'd sure like to know what the t-shirt says... Likely it's something or other about the Brooklyn Dodgers. For Brooklyn,
1955 -- that was
to be, finally, "Next
