Highways are Happy Ways

A few months after that 1959 Sohio Moment when I first became actively interested in collecting road maps, my neighbor's father passed away.  Since that neighbor knew of my new major hobby, she was delighted to give me the stash of maps he had retained from his travels.  Suddenly I had some few dozen issues from the thirties.  I was ecstatic with these ancient -- given the shortened perspective of a 12 or 13 year old -- maps.

The very oldest was a 1932 Standard of Indiana Michigan issue, cover shown here.  It was something I cherished.  The map was well under thirty years old then, and I have had it now more than forty years.  I long ago added much older oil company maps, but I still retain a special fondness for this one.
